This focus was done all in-camera with a combination of movement, focal length, and shutter speed.  It wasn't a tilt shift lens, or Lens Baby, or Photoshop blurr.

snow

It's been snowing here in Utah. It got me in the mood for snowboarding, which reminded me of the trip to Steamboat, Colorado last winter with the Q Network. This was the hotel we stayed in. It had a great neon sign. It was a really fun trip, and I recommend people go on this year's trip. Check out QNetwork for more info. We snowboarded for 4 days straight, and somehow these guys managed to jump off our second floor balcony at the end of the day.

Team Monroe Reunion

Today I got together with my skate crew from high school and had a bit of a reunion session. We were missing a few guys from our original crew, but we also had a few Team Monroe associates that we had met over the years in attendance, namely Jon and Matt Hart, and David Law.
For anyone that doesn't know, I am from a very small, rural part of Utah. Monroe was where I went to school, and we dubbed our skate crew "Team Monroe". We were a close knit bunch, since we comprised the entire skate community in our little group. Skateboarding wasn't so hot in the mid to late 90s and especially not so hot in rural Utah. We honed our skills on homemade boxes, rails, quarterpipes, and random junk we brought to empty parking lots. No skateparks, not even good street spots. But we always had fun.

Today we skated almost all day-- at Orem park, and then two street spots. I brought my camera, but just like in the old days, I was having too much fun skating to stop and take any photos. I managed to get out the G10 and snap these at the end of the day as everyone had used up all their energy and sun was setting. We're all going to be sore tomorrow...I already am. We certainly aren't 17 anymore.

LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT

LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT, a skateboarding film by Josh Martinez, is premiering in Salt Lake at the Tower Theater on Monday the 23rd at 7:00 p.m. Everyone should come out and support the local skate scene. The movie has some incredible skateboarding. Obvious standouts and personal faves include Devin York, Matt Fisher, and Brodie Penrod.
Josh asked me to design the DVD cover, and this is what he got. The photo wraps from front to back as one image. (use your imagination).
I have been lagging on the posts as of late. Here are a couple photos of me skating that Sam Milianta shot. 50-50dirt bump kickflip

Colt Bowden is just getting started...

This past week I started shooting with Colt Bowden. In fact, I just met him for the first time this week. He skates hard and has a creative eye for interesting spots. These are a few "throw away" warm up shots.
He is a great artist too. Check out some of his work here.

Sleepy Hollow at the Casino Star Theatre

Erin and I were in Richfield for Halloween, and we couldn't resist making the drive up to Gunnison to see Sleepy Hollow at the Casino Star Theatre. How can you pass up a chance to see a great Halloween-ish film at a wonderful old theatre? Sadly, there were about 10-12 people in attendance. However, that made it easy for me to take photos during the movie. Gotta love my G10.The Casino Star-- they showed The Addams Family at 7:00 and then Sleepy Hollow at 9:00. Great idea!
